This game is exquisite. The CGA artwork is like the black figure pottery; the palette is a limitation to creation, but when used well, it can enhance the subject.
I also remixed its splash to make a fanart, after spending a few hours playing it last night.
Thanks! I love your edit to this, it looks much better than my effort. Your reference to black figure pottery does give me an idea though. Leaving the background black on that palette would make a convincing black or red figure pottery style a possibility.
Nice little strategy game. Love the beautiful CGA work. Beat the game on easy on my first try, but I think I kind of got lucky with empty plains and having a big city very close to the invasion point. Haven't tried the other difficulty levels yet.
Back in the Civ1 days I always loved the cozy start of game when you managed 1 or 2 cities and spent most of your time exploring, but managing a whole empire in the later stages always felt like too much for me. So, I did feel a bit overwhelmed with having a whole lot of cities and resources right at the start (+ the 36 page manual), but luckily there wasn't much micromanagement involved and it was pretty straightforward and smooth to play. A great jam entry!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! One of the game's flaws (copied over from the original 2010 Psion version) is that the random starting position isn't necessarily balanced, so the map itself can skew the difficulty in one direction or another.

This is great! It reminds me of all my time spent with Warlords and I love what you were able to do with CGA.
looks awesome - well done!
smart palette work too :-)
Runs beautifully on my Book 8088, another fantastic game by Cyningstan. Great use of the CGA color palette, and nice manual.
